Yilan Community Development 3.0
Yilan’s Yanping Community
Yanping Community is located in eastern Yilan City on the right bank of the Yilan River. In the early days, the fertile alluvial flood zone was known as Shabuzai. The community is also home to the Lanyang area’s first Koxinga Temple (called Kaixing Temple). Each year on the anniversary of Koxinga’s return to Taiwan, an ancient ritual is held, with the Magistrate or other county representative invited to perform the rites in what is one of Yilan’s three most significant ceremonies each year. Xinxing Temple, dedicated to worship of Ditiandadi, is located on the southern side of Donggang Road. Locals call it Diyegong Temple. The community gathered important pieces of local history through interviews with seniors and performed field surveys during community excursions. Local rivers, farmland, and community religious beliefs form the foundation for residents’ vision of future community development.
